Welcome to the Learning Resource Centre
On joining Cove School, pupils automatically become a member of the School Library.
Pupils are issued with a library card which has their own individual ‘PIN’ number on.
Pupils may borrow up to 3 books at a time for a period of 3 weeks; loans may be renewed if necessary.
The library currently holds a catalogue of over 7000 resources including; fiction, non-fiction, large print books, quick-reads, graphic novels and Reference books.
Newspapers and popular interest magazines are available to read within the library.

Self-Issue: This allows pupils to use the library and library resources independently.
Using their library card, students are able to check their library accounts and scan books out on loan.
Search Star: This allows pupils to search the library catalogue.
Using their individual PIN they may reserve and review any of our book titles.
Ebooks: Available to all staff and students, accessed via Quick-links on the Cove School website.
Pupil Librarians: Pupils are able to volunteer for break and lunchtime library duties and can work to become a pupil librarian on completing a short library induction course.
Post 16 Option Information: A wide selection of college prospectuses, Post 16 Option and Further Education information is available for students to collect from the library.
Home Study Club: A dedicated Home Study Club, which is open to all year groups and is fully staffed, is held in the LRC after school; Monday-Thursday 3.05pm-4pm.
The LRC has a computer room within the library. Computers may be used by pupils during break and lunchtime and also as part of the Home Study Club.
Events and Activities
The School Library holds a series of exciting events throughout the school year.
World Book Day: Annually in March, we celebrate WBD with activities and events held in the LRC, library and across the school.
The Hampshire Book Award: This is a county event run by Hampshire school library service which we look forward to taking part in every year.
HBA will be open to year 8 pupils in the Spring term 2020.
Author Visits: In March 2020 Helen Dennis, popular children's author of the Secret Breakers series and the River of Ink Series; Genesis, Zenith, Mortal and Immortal will be visiting Cove school to give a presentation to KS3 students about her writing career and books to date.
We are very excited be able to welcome Helen to our school for this fantastic literacy event.

Accelerated Reader KS3
All KS3 students take part in The Accelerated Reader programme, students are tested and issued with their ZPD range they are then able to easily select a suitable Accelerated Reader book from the library-AR books are clearly labelled with an orange AR sticker which has the ZPD level marked.
After each AR book read students sit a short quiz, the aim of the programme is to raise students ZPD range to match their reading age.
Accelerated Reader has proven to be a successful reading tool for Cove school students.

The School Library is a well-used and popular area of the school.
Pupils are encouraged to use the library and its resources throughout the school day.
We aim to promote reading for pleasure by offering a friendly, helpful learning environment to all pupils.
