Overall Purpose of the Subject - Summary:
This qualification focuses on the development of a child from conception to the age of five, developing knowledge and understanding in all aspects of child development.
Course Outline and Structure – Key Stage 4 Exam Board: OCR
Across the two year course pupils will study topics such as Family and Parenting, Physical development and Community Support. Whilst studying Child Development pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of human needs within society as well as being able to evaluate choices and decisions humans make as consumers. This course is broken down into different sections allowing pupils to gain a broad knowledge about a wide variety of practical and theoretical topics.
Assessment Method - Key Stage 4
The assessment is divided into three areas:
Child Development Short Task (30% of the total GCSE marks). One of the tasks must be an investigative task and the other two are practical tasks. (7 hours per task)
Child Study Task: One task worth 30% of the total GCSE marks. The child studied must be aged 0-5 years.
Examination – 1 ½ hour written exam worth 40% of the total marks
