Cove School AnthemThe Cove School Anthem
2007 was a special year in the history of our school. In May, Cove School linked with the Aburi Girls' Secondary School (AGSS) in Ghana and, in September 2007, we opened our new building (library, community ICT suite and HI suite) and celebrated the 70th anniversary of the school on its present site. Cove School moved to St John's Road in September 1937. Originally, Cove Senior School occupied the same site as the junior school but when the school leaving age was raised, it was recognised that the existing site was too small. When the St John's Road building opened in 1937 it was to accommodate 320 boys and girls. Today, the heart of the building is still the original quadrangle, where pupils once gathered to celebrate Empire Day! The girls at the AGSS are noted for their wonderful singing and the Ghanaian school has an anthem. Having heard that, our Director of Music, Jean Medcraft-North, was inspired to write an Anniversary Anthem for Cove School and we now sing it at special events. If you use the link below, you can hear the Cove School Anthem being sung by the Aburi Girls in May 2009. The girls were singing it through for the first time! Now, every Wednesday evening, the girls gather at Aburi for an evening assembly and sing the Cove School Anthem ‘to keep the light of our link forever burning'. The Cove School Anniversary Anthem Our School is built on true values The principles we declare. To fight poverty, injustice and famine To bring freedom to the world we share
To work hard for the next generation For a world that is safe and free To bring peace and love and forgiveness That all around may share and see.
