Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

May 2012

On behalf of the School Governing Body and Staff, I am pleased to enclose with this letter a Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Medal to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's sixty years on the throne (1952-2012).  You will also find a Cove School pen, marking our own celebration of seventy-five years on our school site in St John's Road (1937-2012).

The commemorative medal is intended as a keepsake for you and your family in the years ahead.  One day, perhaps when you are much, much older, you may look back and recall the events of 2012 and realise what an amazing year it was.  Everyone is able to look back on school days but not everyone will witness, in a lifetime, a monarch's Diamond Jubilee or the Olympic Games in England.

In writing this letter, I wish to convey to you all the importance of our school community.  You are all unique and will be remembered by friends and staff in so many ways.  As the years pass so much will change, including the education system and, indeed, this school.   I hope you will be proud to have been a part of Cove School and its history just as I and my staff are proud of you.

So, this is 2012.  Where will we all be in 2022, 2032, 2042, 2052 ... I wonder!   The vast majority of our current school pupils and staff should still be alive in 2052 and will have some amazing memories and stories to relate.  Keep your commemorative medal safe and let it remain as ‘your key' to years past and, in particular, this year 2012 at Cove School.

With every good wish,

Megan Davies Jones
