Overall Purpose of the Subject - Summary:

This qualification focuses on the development of a child from conception to the age of five, developing knowledge and understanding in all aspects of child development.


Design Technology Department – OCR Level 1/2 Cambridge National Certificate Child Development

Year 10 - you will gain knowledge of the equipment needs of babies and young children and an understanding of the factors to be considered when choosing appropriate equipment to meet all of these needs. You will also gain knowledge of nutrition and hygiene practices and will be given the opportunity to evaluate dietary choices. Evaluation skills are transferable skills which would be of use in further studies in most areas.

Year 11 - G.C.S.E. Child Development

This unit will allow learners to investigate the developmental norms of children from birth to five years. Learners will develop an understanding of the impact of play on the developmental norms. On completion of this unit, learners will be able to apply their knowledge and understanding, through practical activities, to show how play affects the development of individual children.
